Don’t get me wrong, I love being able to fit everything into each day and I’m worried about how I’ll maintain this schedule once life “goes back to normal” but this week I’ve been finding it a little overwhelming. How have you been getting on? Are you back to work yet? Going back out to shops? Will you be out at bars and restaurants this weekend?

Yoast SEO version 14.4 was released yesterday and it has some amazing updates! Firstly, you can FINALLY add rel attributes (like nofollow and sponsored) to external links in the Block Editor 🙌

They've also added post-publish sharing actions for Facebook and Twitter. And added the readability and SEO score to the document sidebar and to the publish checks 👏

Today is Juneteenth (June 19th), it celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States in 1865. My weekend task is to read up on the history of this day and the information on the Juneteenth website. But I wanted to share two quotes with you that have been on my mind lately. The first is from Michelle Obama’s Becoming documentary on Netflix, which made me fall even more in love with her. In the documentary, she discusses some of the issues she’s dealt with during her time in US politics. The other is from Dave, one of my favourite artists, his song Black features some powerful thought-provoking lyrics. If you haven’t already seen his performance at the Brit Awards, I encourage you to look it up and listen, he added a verse to discuss some of the issues present in the UK currently.

I feel like they both summarise what is needed from all of us to move forward together - a willingness to be open, to educate, to communicate, to really listen and to be understanding. And then to dig deep, to use our voices and better the world for our children.

Time for a little social media news as there’s been a lot going on lately: ⠀
- The CMA (UK competition watchdog) is launching an investigation into Facebook's $400m acquisition of Giphy (the popular GIF repository) to see how and if the deal will lessen competition in the two companies' respective markets⠀
- Facebook is introducing a new tool to help users batch-delete or archive old content on the platform⠀
- Facebook adds option to send marketing emails via Pages app⠀
- Facebook's Data Transfer Project (DTP) tool is now available to all users worldwide, letting you export all your photos and videos directly to Google Photos without having to download them first⠀
- Facebook to verify the identities of some user profiles behind viral posts⠀
- Instagram says sites need photographers' permission to embed posts, as it considers more embedding control options⠀
- Instagram launched rooms for video chatting and will allow monetising in IGTV⠀
- WhatsApp launches payments, starting first in Brazil, to let you send and receive money using Facebook Pay⠀
- Twitter is testing a feature that will nudge users to read an article before they retweet it⠀
- Twitter Fleets (Twitter's version of Stories), which is already available to users in Brazil and Italy, is expanding its testing to India⠀

In terms of SEO, how long should blog posts be? According to HubSpot data in 2020, the ideal blog post length is between 2,100 and 2,400 words. In 2013, Medium said 1,600 words, as did Buffer. Search Engine Journal 1,900 words, according to a 2016 study. Yoast says long blog posts over 1,000 words have a higher chance of ranking well. And in 2017 Moz said the ideal length was BS! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So what's the answer? The consensus is that blog posts that are longer result in a higher ranking, but really it depends on your situation, your content goals and your audience. A better question to ask is what value are you providing to your readers? And is your blog post achieving that? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Before I go back to posting about WordPress and SEO related topics, I wanted to share some Black content creators I enjoy seeing on my feed. I used to share my favourites more regularly and I want to bring that back in the future. What's new in WordPress? Version 8.2 of the Gutenb

What's new in WordPress? Version 8.2 of the Gutenberg plugin was released this week, which includes several updates and enhancements. This includes a focus on better editing flow, a new content positioning control for the Cover block and add categories to block patterns. We'll also see improvements being made to the Buttons block, and users can test two new block patterns (hero section with two columns and a three-column features/services section). And we've been told that Block Widgets are almost ready too! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
