How to SEO your blog posts on Blogger – Video Walkthrough with FREE checklist

Today’s post is about taking my SEO tips and putting them into action in order to optimise your posts and blog content. I’ve written quite a few posts on SEO – covering basics of writing content and optimising images to increasing your domain authority, removing broken links and using NoFollow links.

Despite covering a few aspects I constantly get emails about it and have noticed reoccurring feedback, which is “I think I get it… But HOW do I do it?”.

So today I have a video walkthrough of how to SEO your posts on Blogger. It’s basically the same no matter what platform you’re on but I wanted to be as specific as possible. If you’re on WordPress, you’ll find a guide for SEOing your posts here.

There’s also a FREE checklist below that you can print off and keep beside your desk to refer back to when writing blog posts!

Check out my previous tutorial on how to use Keyword Planner to find and research keywords. You may want to look back over my SEO posts to read more in-depth explanations of everything I’ve done in the video.

I hope you liked this style of post and have found it helpful, if you have please let me know by sharing it using the share buttons below or leaving a comment.

    1. Thanks Laura, that’s amazing feedback to get! So pleased you liked it 🙂

  2. I’ve been blogging with Blogger for YEARS, and I’ve never been given the option for “Search Description” ??

    1. Hey Jaime. Go to Settings > Search Preferences > Meta Tags > Edit Description and select Yes. Add a general description of your blog and save. Now the Search Description option will appear on each blog post 🙂

      1. Wow, I’ve never seen that either. Thanks for the tip.

  3. Being on Blogger since 2008 i’ve seen so much change over the years so this was a very nice refresher course. Glad to see you’re on YT, i’m following you.

    1. Thanks for following Lily, want to start including different things to go along with text tutorials and I think video can be a great help 🙂

  4. hi Elaine I have some issue with my blogger which i see in my webmaster console im posting it “http://www.da-evil.in/feeds/posts/summary?redirect=false&max-results=150&start-index=151&alt=json-in-script&callback=getTitlesForNav%22/%3E”

and my error code is 400

can you let me know how to fix it?

    1. Hello Krushna, I’m not sure what you’re trying to do but that’s not a valid URL. Where in search console are you seeing the error?

      1. Hi Elaine I’m getting that error in my Crawl error section of my webmaster console

        feeds/posts/summary?redirect=false&max-results=500&alt=json-in-script&callback=getTitlesForNav%22%3E%3C/ 400

        feeds/posts/summary?redirect=false&max-results=150&start-index=151&alt=json-in-script&callback=getTitlesForNav%22/%3E 400

The number 400 is the respose code to the error.

        1. Ah okay Krushna. The link isn’t valid, it doesn’t lead anywhere which is why it’s throwing back that error. You’ll need to click on it in the Search Console and see where it’s being linked from, then correct the link on those pages. I cover this in my post on Broken Links here.

          1. okay so thats’s what i got it

this is the exact link and i’m posting again

            http://www.da-evil.in/feeds/posts/summary?redirect=false&max-results=150&start-index=151&alt=json-in-script&callback=getTitlesForNav%22/%3E

I think this is the issue with the template im using ,now can you see and let me what is the issue and what do i need to get rid of this in other words what do i need to change in my template to get rid of the error

“Googlebot couldn’t access this page because the server didn’t understand the syntax of Googlebot’s request.” the error code is 400

          2. I understand that that’s the link showing an error but you need to find the source of that. Does it tell you where the link is being linked from Krushna? My previous comment describes how to find that information, then you’ll know where it appears on your blog (either in a post or in the template code, etc.). I can’t tell you that information from my side. If it is an issue with your template you’ll have to go back to the developer.

  5. no the link doesn’t tell me anything when click on the link it shows this “Invalid callback value”

it doesn’t appear on my blog anywhere I came to know about it in my google webmaster console ,crawl error section .

    1. It’s being used in your page navigation script, you’ll need to contact your developer about it.

  6. I’ve been blogging for several years now but I never paid attention to this kind of stuff. I’ve been going through your tutorials and have been doing them one at a time. So far, I’ve moved my blog to a custom domain, done all sorts of stuff with my nav bar, and learned how to style things with css. Your tutorials are awesome and make it easy for someone who doesn’t know much about any of this. I’d never heard of seo until I started reading your blog and some of the stuff I was already doing but now I’m going back and adding alt text to my images. The problem I have is that my blog is written in more of a reference style so doesn’t work with a lot of your instructions. For example, you said that Google reads the headings to be more important but for me, each post has the same headings that don’t include any keywords. Is my way of writing hurting my seo enough that I should try to change it?

    1. Hello Mellie, thank you so much! It sounds like you’ve been very busy, congratulations on getting your own domain! Headings within the content are important, but it’s only a small factor when it comes to SEO. What you could do is add the item name to your heading within the post, instead of just mentioning it in the post title. Also, make sure you’re adding descriptive alt tags to the images so that you have a chance of showing in Google Image Search Results too.

  7. I love your blog! it is so helpful!
